Frequently Asked Questions

Is OwnHours really free?

Yes! OwnHours is 100% free for workers. Employers pay to post positions and be able to search for candidates, like you, that are vetted, experienced and available to work at the times when they need.

At OwnHours, we strongly believe in empowering workers to take control of their careers and secure economic stability. For that reason we offer many free resources from our AI Career Coach to our Public Profile creation tool. Find out more.

I already have a job. Can I still use OwnHours?

100%!
If you want a second (or third!) job, OwnHours lets you tailor your available days and times so you only get contacted by employers looking for workers available when you are!
If you are happy with the job you have, OwnHours is a great place to track hours and experience. You can use OwnHours to build a network of connections, get recommendations, use our AI career and credit tools, and more. We always suggest that you start getting recommendations now, so you are ready in case of the unexpected.

Is my information safe?

yes! All documents are saved in an encrypted repository so you can be assured your information is safe with us. Plus you get to review and accept any incoming messages before potential employers can see your details.

Is OwnHours going to be a waste of my time like other job boards?

No! We know the pain of setting up profiles and having it lead to nothing. We designed OwnHours to provide value whether you are actively looking for your next opportunity or wanting to build a list of recommendations to use when the time is right. No matter what stage you are at, we want to help you get the steady schedule and steady pay you deserve.

The best part is that while employers can post open positions, we’ve set it up so that employers can proactively reach out to you.

What are paystubs and why do I need them?

Pay stub is another name for pay statement. It also may be referred to as a paycheck stub, wage statement or pay slip. They are often used to verify employment. In OwnHours we use them to verify employers, experience hours and employment dates. Typically we only need the end of year paystub for prior years and the most current paystub for this year. Using this, we can vetted the hours of experience you have with different employers and show them you are the real deal!

Where can I find my paystubs? What about paystubs from former employers?

The IRS requires employment tax records to be saved for four years after filing taxes for the year. Under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), employers must retain payroll records for three years and save documentation showing how they determined wages for two years, so even if you have left an employer you should be able to log in and download paystubs.

Employees who receive printed paychecks generally find their pay statement attached to the check. Those who have electronic payment delivery, like direct deposit, typically can access their pay statement through an online portal provided by their employer or submit an official request through human resources. Below are links to some common payroll providers and where to print a paystub:

Salaris Payroll
ADP Mobile
ADP Web iPay
Gusto Payroll
Toast Payroll
Square Payroll
Paychex
Homebase Payroll
Quickbooks Payroll
